chef best recipes

The next time you have people over for dinner; try turning the food preparation into the party.   Panini parties are one great way to let your guests be involved in making their own food.

Panini is the plural form of panino which means small bread roll or sandwich in Italian.  It is a hot sandwich made from a panini grill.  When you put the sandwich in the grill and press down, you cook the sandwich twice as fast and make attractive grill marks on both sides.

Best panini sandwich recipes use ingredients that can definitely be appetizing to everyone.  There are cheeses, sliced meats, veggies and perhaps even fresh fruits.  For parties, you can set aside variety of meats, cheeses, green veggies together with choice of breads.  You can have thick slices of Italian or French breads, ciabatta style or rolls.  Generally, there are no condiments on the best panini sandwich recipes.  Instead, you can use a pastry brush to coat the bread with a high quality olive oil.  Let your friends do the preparation of their own sandwiches according to their preferred tastes.

When your guests have been busy placing together their sandwiches, start heating the panini grill.  Once it is heated, call your guests over and ask them to put their sandwiches inside.  The heating time will depend on the size of the bread or rolls; usually it’s about 3-6 minutes.

At parties like these, the fun part is the preparation and eating time.  Do not thing about everyone sitting down to eat at the same time.  Get your drinks and let everyone enjoy their sandwiches that they’ve prepared.  They may even want seconds because they’re having so much fun.  The best panini sandwich recipes will save you from worrying about the menu for your party.  Just have a recipe book or several loose recipes available for your guests to choose.  Better yet, allow them to use their imaginations and get creative.

Panini can also be dessert sandwiches.  They have recipes that will surely make you crave for more.  You can purchase a panini recipe book or browse through web sites that have best panini sandwich recipes, they are very easy to make.  You can get ideas from there and start to experiment on your own.  This can be helpful in suggesting new variety to your guests when making their panini later on.

Panini grills are not limited to heating panini sandwiches.  You can even use it to grill veggies, hamburgers and steaks.  Try getting some of your favorite green veggies and place them on the grill with a little olive oil.  Grill them for a few minutes and there you have it, nice grilled veggies that you will surely love.
So when you plan to invite your family over for dinner, gather them to make their own panini sandwiches.  Everyone will surely have a great time with it.  It’s a great alternative to a formal dinner party or a fondue party!

5 Culinary Chef Career Tips

A culinary chef preps and cooks a variety of meals for the public. Meals such as soups, appetizers, salads, side dishes, entrees, desserts and breads are included. Naturally a culinary chef has a widespread work experience along with formal training from a culinary institute or college. Listed below are 5 culinary chef career tips to look over before starting a chef career.

Step 1: Researching the Culinary Chef Career Duties and Education

A master of food, a culinary chef prepares meals that comfort, uplift and arouse all while nourishing patrons’ taste buds and palates. A culinary chef also crates menus while preparing food and managing kitchen employees. Culinary chefs must have a great sense of smell and taste with high levels of creativity and a knack for experimentation (to ensure the success of the menu). Some culinary chefs work from the bottom up; however, it is more common these days for a culinary chef to have formal and professional training through an apprenticeship or program offered by an institute or college.

Step 2: Prep While in High School

Along with your relevant high school classes, like English, mathematics, take any class that will prepare you for the kitchen. Business, food handling and cooking safety are good to take as well. Check to see if your community offers chefs training programs. Finally, get experience in the industry by getting a job at a restaurant. Any of your choice, experience always matters.

Step 3: Work Your Way Up

The best way in becoming a culinary chef is starting at the bottom of the chef career path and work your way up. Start in the kitchen as a dishwasher, bus boy/girl, host or waiter/waitress. Get familiar with the food, the customers, the staff and the business; it well you in the long to understand what a restaurant owners wants and needs from employees. Your first cooking job usually is cleaning cooking areas, peeling, gutting, chopping; the lighter things. Next, you will be responsible for preparing soups, appetizers, salads or desserts. The next step is becoming a line cook; this is where you prepare items based on type of food or cooking, such as grill or sauté cook. Second to the head chef is the sous chef, who works on the line and has the added responsibility of watching over the rest of the kitchen staff. Top of the ‘top’ culinary chefs is the executive chef. As executive chef, you manage the entire kitchen, create the menu, invent and test cooking ingredients and recipes and stock for the entire kitchen. It can very well take you years to become a ‘top’ culinary executive chef.

Step 4: Apprenticeship

Enrolling in an apprenticeship program accredited by the ACCFFAC (American Culinary Federation Accrediting Commission) will most certainly put your culinary chef career on the right path. Many apprenticeships are 2 or 3 year on-the-job, full-time training and you must complete at least 12 courses in the subjects relevant to a culinary chef career. These apprentices are paid and can earn you an optional culinary arts associate degree in the process. The American Culinary Federation’s (ACF’s) website has all the details and locations of the programs.

Step 5: Formal Recipe for Success

In order for students to start a culinary chef career, and advance in the culinary chef field, you must have a high school diploma. Trade and vocational schools offer basic training as well. You may attend a community college or culinary institution or attend a private cooking school that offers 2 or 4 year programs in culinary arts. In addition to your program learning, students enrolled in culinary arts programs find that working in an ‘upscale’ or ‘fine-dining’ restaurants help the learning process significantly. ACF offers certifications in a number of culinary arts careers such as; educator, personal chef, pastry chef and others. The combination of certification and work experience with on-the-job training is the best recipe for success in starting your culinary chef career.

Cook Like a Chef in Your Home Kitchen

By: MilPesic
Posted: May 13, 2011

However, spending money to get a meal created by a chef can get expensive, especially if you are splurging regularly. The good news is that you can learn to use techniques in your own kitchen that will give you the same results as eating at a five-star restaurant. These tips and tricks are simple, but can really take your cooking to a whole other level.

Recipes are Key

Even the most experienced chef has recipes that are tried and true, and that they use on a regular basis. Often, these recipes aren’t their own creations, either. While experienced chefs will often adjust and adapt a recipe to their own taste, they still begin with a basic blueprint that gives them the direction is which to take a dish. In order to cook like a chef in your home kitchen, you will need to have a good selection of recipes on hand. Choose one book that features basic recipes, as well as several books with more interesting fare. Don’t be afraid to try new recipes on a regular basis, though it’s best to only serve guests something that you have had time to perfect.

Pay Attention to Details

If a professional chef does anything, it’s pay attention to each detail that goes into their dish. Your ingredients are the foundation of the food that you serve, and you should select and prepare them with care. Chefs have specific ways that they do things, and ingredients that they prefer. For example, dessert chefs prefer unsalted butter. Using this product in your baked goods will give you more control over the final product and result in a higher quality confections. Butter is also an integral ingredient for other types of chefs. Many sauces are made with the assistance or real butter. In order to cook like a chef in your own kitchen, you will need to learn how to clarify butter. This professional technique separates butter solids from the pure fat, and increases the quality of any sauce.

Details also matter when selecting fresh ingredients. When it comes to produce, the fresher you can get your ingredients, the better your final result will be. If you have outside space, grow a garden for ultra-fresh organic produce. Even those that live in apartments or small spaces can grow herbs in a pot on the windowsill. Barring getting produce that you have grown yourself, seek out farmer’s markets, community supported farms or organic fruits and vegetables. Even with conventionally grown items, you can choose the best that is available in your area. For example, vine ripened tomatoes and tree ripened fruit have better flavor than their chemically gassed counterparts. In addition, you will get better results if you buy fresh produce in season. Even chefs hesitate to offer a strawberry dessert in February, because the quality will not be up to par at that time of the year.

Cooking can be a mystery to some people, but it isn’t that difficult. Learning a basic recipe is easy. With practice, and proper technique, you can easily learn to cook like a chef as well. Using the tips, tricks and techniques that chefs use will improve the quality of your food, impressing your family, friends and guests.

A Great Thanksgiving Appetizer Recipe by Burning Peppers? How?

By: Chef Todd Mohr
Posted: Nov 09, 2010

A great Thanksgiving appetizer recipe can be the start of any reason to celebrate.  Whether a holiday dinner, birthday, or weekend party, offering attractive and delicious yet simple appetizers can get any gathering off to a great start.

Appetizers, or “hors d Oeuvres” are small bites of food to stimulate the eye and palate.  “Hors d’ Oeuvres” in French means “outside the meal”.  These appetizers were originally prepared by the wait staff in early banquets, using the leftovers and scraps from the meal to be served.  While the chefs were working, the waiters were offering tastes “outside the meal”.

One of my favorite small bites outside the meal can also be a simple Thanksgiving appetizer recipe.  These Roasted Red Pepper Pinwheels involve making a soft cheese filling to line a roasted, skinned and filleted bell pepper.

Roasting red, yellow and orange bell peppers is a simple procedure, but it’s necessary that you use direct, conductive heat.  In other words, you need a flame.  A gas burner atop your stove is preferred, but a barbeque grill or even electric broiler will work.  An oven supplies indirect, convective heat and won’t accomplish the charred skin we desire.

To make this Thanksgiving appetizer recipe a success, the peppers must be completely charred black.  Any skin on the pepper that is not completely burned to a black color will not come off when the pepper is shocked in cold water.

You’ll be amazed at how tough the skin of a pepper is.  The outside is burned beyond recognition, but behind that is a bright, colorful, soft fruit.  The dramatic change in temperature causes all the burned skin of the pepper to rub right off.

To create a filet of roasted bell pepper, cut a slice along the length of the pepper from stem to blossom, keeping your knife behind the flesh but in front of the white pith cage that holds the seeds in place.  When you have done it correctly, you will have left the cage and seeds behind, revealing a flat filet of flesh.

Now, any type of soft spread able cheese and your favorite herbs can be mixed and spread on the pepper filet.  I prefer goat cheese, thyme, oregano, basil, salt, and white pepper.  Your hands are the best tool for this job, so you can create an even depth of ¼ inch of cheese on top of the roasted pepper.

When you roll the pepper over on top of the cheese, creating a spiral design within, you’ll begin to realize why this is such a great Thanksgiving appetizer recipe.  It’s simple, you can use the ingredients you desire, and it involves your own creativity along with a basic cooking method.  Those are the best recipes of all, the ones you create yourself.

The stuffed rolled pepper should be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerated for 2 hours, allowing the cheese to solidify.  Once removed from the cooler and unwrapped, eighth-inch slices cut along the pepper’s latitude will reveal the contrast of the colorful pepper and white cheese in a spiraling pinwheel design.

The Red Pepper Pinwheels can be placed on crackers; artisan toasts, or used to top a pizza or broiled bruschetta.  I think it’s a fantastic Thanksgiving appetizer recipe, but you can use it any time of the year you’d like.

Finding Quick And Easy Recipes

By: JeepnDave
Posted: Mar 23, 2009

]]>

Have you done a search for a quick and easy dinner recipe lately? I ask because I noticed something interesting the other day when I did a Google search for a quick and easy recipe for dinner this past weekend. The thing about that search that struck me as funny was the fact that all I had to search for was quick and easy, I did not have to mention what was quick and easy that I was looking for. No mention of dinner, appetizers, meals or another one hundred ways to cook a chicken nothing no mention of food or cooking what so ever.

I suppose it struck me as funny because I could think of quite a few things that I would look for that were quick and easy and none of them involve food. Yet when I tried to search just on quick and easy for all three major search engines they all assumed that I was looking for quick and easy recipes. Yes it’s true that quick and easy recipes is exactly what I was looking for and for the most part they all gave basically the same food sites to find quick and easy recipes.

Just got me thinking how often people around the world must be looking for quick and easy recipes that all I have to type now is quick and easy. I did find a delicious recipe for a chicken and pasta dinner with diced red peppers and yes it was quick and easy! This also got me to thinking about how the concept of spending a decent amount of time to cook a good meal with more than five ingredients has become a lost art form really. Some of the most popular cooking shows on the Food Network for example are all about limiting your ingredients and preparing your meals in thirty minutes or less.

I reflect on the cooking habits that go on in our house and I would have to say that the only time we spend more than a half hour on any meal usually means we are cooking a holiday feast. Other wise I suppose we are like everyone else looking for short cuts to making our meals. This led me to another thought about all these quick and easy meals that perhaps all this short cut cooking that we all do and cutting back on ingredients is part of the reason so many people are fighting obesity and poor health. Not to say that quick and easy recipes are not healthy but that maybe they are missing some of the key ingredients and nutrients that we used to get in our daily nutrition but are now being shorted in the interest of saving time and money.

An easy recipe for home-made rock candy

By: Kiron Abraham

Candies are one of the simplest things to make. In order to prepare a food item though, you need to know what it is. Many people consider candy and chocolate to be one and the same thing. However, there is more to these fun filled treats than gooey chocolate delight. The different kinds of candies include hard, soft and sweet. Truffles and lollipops are easy recipes that can be made in your kitchen.

Making rock candy at home is a source of pleasure because you can add your own creativity to the recipe. You can experiment with different flavors and colors to come up with new and interesting delights. In fact, the whole family can join in the fun!

To begin the process of candy making, soak a piece of thread in water for some time. Then tie the thread to a stick or a pencil and place the pencil at the mouth of the jar. In order to help the thread to hang straight, you can attach a paper clip to it. The next step is to roll the wet thread in granulated sugar. This action helps the sugar crystals to stay glued together as the rock candy starts to form. You can either prepare the sugar syrup at home or buy it ready made from your local supermarket. Pour the sugar syrup into the jar.

Carefully lower the string into the jar till it is about an inch from the bottom. Now cover the jar with a plastic or paper towel and wait for the sugar crystals to set. It will take around two to four hours for the sugar to crystallize.

Lollipops are another easy dessert recipe. The ingredients needed for a lollipop recipe are granulated sugar, water and corn syrup. In a pan, mix together 3 ½ cups of granulated sugar, a cup of water and 1 ½ cup of corn syrup. Then, heat the mixture until the sugar dissolves properly. It is important to stir continuously till the mixture reaches a boiling point.  Remove the pan from the heat and add in your own flavors and color. The ideal temperature to allow the candy to boil properly is 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

This easy recipe shows that making candy is not a difficult task and it is not even time- consuming. Along with that, homemade rock candy does not include any chemicals and other additives. This makes  it a healthy treat for the kids as well.
